Sometimes I find listicles boring and overdone. However, I LOVE reading and writing year-end listicles. Best movies, music, and books of the year? I’m all over it. Unfortunately, I always overwhelm myself in the month of December trying to watch/read/listen so I can compile my lists by the years end. This year, I’m trying to write shorter monthly lists to better prepare myself. Please, comment: What were your favorite reads/watches/listens to in the month of January!
Sex Criminals by Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky
What if your super power was that you could stop time every time you…well, climaxed? What if you thought you were the only one with this power until you had amazing sex with someone who was the same as you? What kind of shenanigans would you get into together? I read Volumes 1 and 2 in January. It’s a surprising and wonderfully sex positive read.
Poorly Drawn Lines: Good Ideas and Amazing Stories by Reza Farazmand
One of the best web comics online has a book. And unsurprisingly it’s the best book I’ve read so far this year simply because of the consistent hilarity, genius, and surprise on every single page.
I’ve made a habit of choosing my favorite song on each Friday. Here were my #FavoriteSongFriday in January 2016.
Favorite Song Friday 1/8/16: I Wanna Boi – PWR BTTM
I also had the opportunity to catch PWR BTTM live at the Vera Project this month. They are truly phenomenal.
Favorite Song Friday 1/15/16: Born Again Teen – Lucius
*Counting down to their album release in March*
Favorite Song Friday 1/22/16: Loose Change for the Boatman – King Charles
King Charles’ Gamble for a Rose was one of my favorite album releases this month.
Favorite Song Friday 1/29/16: Ch-Ching – Chairlift
Chairlift’s Moth was my FAVORITE album release this month.
Movies and Television
*note I’m listing TV shows I’ve finished not my favorites that I’m currently watching *
Master of None: Season 1
Although I wouldn’t call it my favorite TV show, Master of None had it’s fantastic and remarkably relate able moments. I liked the first half more than the second. 3.5/5 stars
The Revenant, Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu
Again, would not call this my favorite movie. I am bothered by movies that feature only one female character…who is sexually assaulted. Having said that, this movie was undeniably beautifully directed and had some incredibly performances by Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, and Will Poulter
How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying at the 5th Avenue Theatre, Seattle
I LOVE good night out to the theatre and plan to try to see more shows with my open evenings. How to Succeed in Business (without really trying) was a riot! I danced in my seat, I openly laughed LOUDLY and the performances were astounding. I have to say that Adam Standley as Frump was a standout (I had seen him previously at ACT in Mr. Burns) and I hope to keep seeing him dominate the theatre scene!
